Pet Grooming School – Bathing the Dog before Grooming

A qualified pet grooming school will teach you to not pop the dog into the tub from the get go. You need to prep the dog first.  Make sue to view “Prepping the Dog” video first!  You need to remove dead and shed hair from the coat. You need to do the prep work first that usually includes brushing, ear cleaning, nail cutting and trimming. Proper prep work and a good bath are the foundations of quality grooming.

Once in the tub, make sure to secure the dog so it cannot jump out. Next, you need to feed warm water into the coat from the neck down. Once the body is soaked, gently wet the face, then massage the lather all over, taking care not to get water or suds into eyes, nose, mouth or ears. You should shampoo your dog twice to get your dog nice and squeaky-clean. A good skin conditioner is a must! Make sure to rinse your dog squeaky clean. Any soapy residue left in the coat will cause dryness to the dog’s skin. After the dog’s shower, use a high-velocity force dryer to blow moisture from the coat as part of the drying process or place dog in a well ventilated cage dryer.
